Mihály Nagy was an undergraduate student in technical earth sciences at the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Engineering of the University of Miskolc for 7 semesters, from September 2018 to December 2021. He joined the TEKH Vocational College at the beginning of his studies and was a key member of it throughout. Misi tried his luck in the wider world, he is currently studying abroad (between 2022 and 2024) and working, but he keeps in touch with us regularly.
Below is Misi's experience report from a summer university in Poland. (The previous part of the series, in which Misi talked about the RACE competition, can be read by clicking here. The first part of the series, in which Misi talked about his studies in Lisbon, can be read by clicking here.)
“My first summer programme was the "International Summer School Circular Economy and Energy Transition Leaders". This training consisted of two parts: a one-month online lecture series and a one-week training course in Gliwice, at the Silesian University of Technology. The summer university was very thorough, covering the circular economy, renewable energy, energy storage and the energy transition in general. These topics were covered in a very diverse way, with everything from the basics of physics to current new start-up technologies. For me, besides modern solutions for energy storage, the presentation on the social challenges of the energy transition was very interesting, as it is a problem that a technical person does not immediately think about.
Besides learning, we also took part in cultural activities. We visited a mining museum 300 metres below the ground in Zabrze. We learned about Gliwice and its surroundings, the university and, last, but not least, the art of pierogi making.
The Silesian Summer University was an amazing experience for me, I learned a lot about the energy transition in Europe today, about renewable energy systems and about Poland. I also met a lot of interesting people from all over the world. The diversity of nationalities and backgrounds made this great summer experience even more diverse, varied and fun. I can only recommend this summer university!”
