35 participants listened the presentations in the two-day online short course “Hydrochemical Investigations Reflecting Critical Raw Materials and Heavy Metal Dynamics”. Dr. Teodóra Szőcs took us through the training on the 24th and Mohamed Hamdy Eid Hemida handled 25th August 2026.
The training provided an overview of hydrogeochemistry, isotope hydrology, groundwater quality and geochemical processes. The first day focused mainly on the theoretical foundations, including groundwater chemistry, environmental isotopes, groundwater age dating, water–rock interactions, contamination sources and hydrochemical interpretation.
The second day focused on practical applications, including geochemical modelling using PHREEQC, mineral saturation indices, interpretation of major and trace elements, isotope data, groundwater–aquifer interactions, recharge and contamination assessment. The practical demonstrations were particularly relevant to understanding the behaviour and mobility of heavy metals and critical raw materials in groundwater systems.
